Dear Holy Comforter community:
2012 has been another exciting year for Holy Comforter! We have experienced the joy of welcoming many new members into our community. Our various ministries have flourished and filled up spaces that were considered “new” just last year. The work we do for our own spiritual development, for our fellow parishioners, and for the community as a whole truly has knitted us together, making Holy Comforter a vibrant, mission and ministry-driven community. As we look ahead toward even more exciting opportunities to come in 2013, we are kicking off our Annual Giving Campaign this Sunday, October 28th.
Growing on last year’s foundation, our theme this year is “Whole Living – Life of Purpose, Connections Through Ministry, and Joyful Giving.” As we examine our blessings, we will discern how our joy as individuals and as a faith community is enhanced by living lives of purpose, belonging to an engaged community, and being firmly rooted in generosity in all forms.
Whole Living Campaign Goals:
· 100% Participation
We believe that every member of Holy Comforter is important to God’s work in and through this place, and that every gift is valuable to the giver and to God’s Kingdom. The breadth of our committed pledging community always has been and will continue to be a reflection of our community’s strength going forward.
· $725,000 in Pledge Income
Just as we have all experienced in our own personal lives as we go to the grocery store, visit the gas station, and pay our utility bills, we anticipate that our parish expenses will increase. $725,000 represents modest growth of approximately 4.5% from our pledges for calendar year 2012. Achieving this goal will give us the necessary financial resources to honor our existing ministries and further develop Holy Comforter’s purpose as serving as God’s hands and feet for our brothers and sisters in need here in Charlotte.
· New Pledges
One of the most exciting aspects we all see at Holy Comforter is the continual presence of new faces in our pews. While we do not have a specific numeric goal associated with new pledges, we will continue to measure and celebrate our growth in new members.
Whole Living Kickoff and Fall Celebration
We will begin our Whole Living campaign with a “Jeans and Jerseys” tailgate celebration this coming Sunday, October 28th, following the 10:30 a.m. service. There will be a chili cookoff, pizza and wings, a moon bounce for the kids, pumpkin carving and more. We’ll also watch the Panthers play on the big screen. We strongly encourage you to dress casually, wearing regalia of the team you support. We’ll celebrate together as we always do - with food, fellowship, and fun.
Connections through Ministry
One of the primary ways we work toward whole living at Holy Comforter is through participation in our many active ministries. During the two weeks following the kickoff, a ministry leader will contact you to deliver a Whole Living packet to you. When you receive that call, please be as open and as flexible as possible for this important conversation. Throughout the weeks of the Whole Living campaign, we will be discussing a Life of Purpose, our Connections through Ministry, and Joyful Giving.
Whole Congregation Gathers at Annual Meeting
The culmination of our Whole Living Annual Giving Campaign will be at our Annual Meeting on November 18th at 9 a.m., where we will learn about what we as a parish have accomplished in 2012 and where we are headed in 2013. Following the Annual Meeting, there will be a bilingual service gathering our entire community in celebration. We will gather as disciples and deliver our financial pledges to God’s work at Holy Comforter.
We thank you for the chance to share a spiritual discipline that has shaped our lives.
With joy,
